EYAV racing season has been full of action

Imp S62 on her way to winning the E24 State Championship

Russell Hibbert wins the E24 State Titles

Russell, sailing IMP S62 from Royal Melbourne Yacht Squadron, held off aggressive competition from HBYC yachts to win this year's Championship.
All races in the series were keenly fought, with the lead constantly changing, sometimes more than ten times in a race. In some races the winning margins were less than ten seconds. Russell and his crew put in a splendid effort to win the three races in the series.
Congratulations to IMP and all on board.
Ian Robertson with VENUS H701 won the E26 State Title for the second time. With a great sporting gesture, Ian has been encouraging his competition, Gary Cook ONEDIN and Keith Payne BY JINGIES. Next year's E26 Titles will be exciting to watch!

We welcome new members and new Endeavours to EYAV
John Streader E24 Nat
Merran Sheahan
Fay Rendell

Nat is an E24 which has done most of it's sailing at Geelong
New owner, John Streader is keen to find out information on the yacht's previous history, so if anyone can help, please give John a call. John is returning to sailing after some years away from the sport, although he did have a lot of competitive sailing in Hobsons Bay a few years ago.
We wish John and his family happy sailing aboard their attractive yacht.

New E24 "NAT" joins EYAV at Geelong

Goodbye Alice, thankyou!

Alice has been a great supporter of HBYC and EYAV since HBYC became our Host Club in 2000. Alice's name has been on the front page of our newsletter ever since and she has helped us with race arrangements, meetings, AGM & Presentations.

We will miss her guidance & support, but we wish Alice and her husband Will all the best in their retirement.

President's Report

EYAV has continued its growth and development during the past year

  • The EYAV website continues to attract more visitors with new Endeavour owners discovering our history and joining our Association. We now have approximately 95% of our members receiving our newsletter by email, this system work extremely well and will be continued for the coming year.
  • Many of our E24 & E26 yachts have been restored beautifully to look and perform like new, couple this to their performance and safety in club events and we can understand why Endeavours are again increasing their popularity.
  • Both the Endeavour Yacht Association of Australia and the Endeavour 24 Yacht Club of W.A. will be sailing at the EYAA 2007 National Championships in Sydney, and we are exploring possibilities to have an EYAV entry.
  • We continue to receive financial support from our sponsors - put them at the top of your list when thinking of shopping for new items for your Endeavour - they want to help you too.

Aims for 2006-2007 - Getting More Fun With Your Endeavours

The committee will be on hand as experienced Endeavour sailors and will share their information and skills they have acquired sailing Victorian waters to make your sailing safer and more successful. For those with an interest in gaining experience in racing, articles, workshops and on water sailing with successful skippers will be available.
We look forward to receiving your feedback to ensure we are doing our utmost to help you get fun with your Endeavour.

I would like to thank the 2005-2006 EYAV committee and the members for their support and assistance and wish you all safe and happy sailing.

Frank Rendell, EYAV President.

On the Waterfront

"Onedin" takes on a new look after a refurbishment which included respray, re-rigging & S/S fittings. Just waiting now for Antifoul.

ON THE TECHNICAL SIDE

with Frank Rendell

Instead of technical data this publication, we thought we would give you an insight into other sailing activities of our EYAV members. They get in lots of sailing time with their Endeavours, but many also try their hand in bigger yachts with Offshore Sailing. The last 6 months have seen quite a few Blue Water Adventures and we have mapped them out to give you an idea of their travels.
Around the Apple Isle with Craig Jackson

Craig has crewed on Puff for about 2 years, as well as some of the fastest Bay & Offshore yachts. Last year Craig organised a joint training program for race start rules for EYAV & HBYC members.
At the start of this year Craig joined the crew of "Tevake II" for her initial race in the Melbourne to Hobart, the notorious Tasmanian West Coast race.
To qualify, "Tevake II" did their obligatory pre-race 600 nm across Bass Strait to Tassie & back. The race began with 14 starters & was a close battle from start to finish with some wild weather to spice things up. "Tevake II" finished first in the AMS A Division. Craig sent us a photo of Tevake II, from his Melbourne to Hobart race just off Maatsuyker Island Lighthouse. You can see it in the background (Just to the left of the sail number). Maatsuyker Island Lighthouse is Australia's most southerly lighthouse where conditions are usually extreme because of the constant buffeting of the Roaring Forties coming off the Southern Ocean. On average, 250 days a year is wet at the Maatsuyker Island Lighthouse. Craig was lucky and actually got to see it.

Adventures in Paradise

Overland in a Land Rover & Island Hopping in "Skedaddle"

with Frank Rendell.

Seven years ago my sailing buddy, Ike Voss from HBYC, moved to Cairns, recently he rang and asked if I would like to join him driving his newly acquired Land Rover from Melbourne to Yorkeys Knob. That sounded great as we had done the same trip 7 years before when Ike moved up North, and the scenery up the centre via the Newell Highway is spectacular. Couple that with a sail around the tropical Islands off the coast of Cairns and the trip was on!
Ike has his yacht & a runabout at Yorkeys Knob, however he is skipper of "Skedaddle", the ex Brian Naylor 45' catamaran, and that's what we sailed on in glorious weather.

Lord Howe Island and Back Aboard "Salar Vee"

with John Bish & Three Endeavour Skippers as crew.

John Bish, owner & Skipper of "Salar Vee", made the journey with three Endeavour skippers aboard. Ian "Venus", Gary "Onedin" and Mark "Cathmarine". The trip up was smooth & enjoyable, however, the return journey had rougher conditions necessitating a stopover at Eden & Lakes Entrance.
All aboard enjoyed the sail & the adventure and would not have missed the voyage for anything.

All home safe & sound and that's the main thing!
