EYAV AGM & Trophy Presentations

Mark Sheahan, our EYAV Treasurer/ Secretary, receives the prestigious EYAV 2008 State Championship trophy for his outstanding series win from EYAV President Frank Rendell. Mark sailed his E24 “Cathmarine” consistently competitively throughout the racing season to win our ultimate EYAV trophy.

There are six perpetual E24 trophies awarded each year and 2008 saw the closest racing on record with the winning results divided between three yachts. Presentation day is when all the tough hours preparing the yachts, training the crew, facing the wild seas and fierce competition melt away as the winners step up to receive their trophy and a place in history. Most of the EYAV trophies carry the names of the winning skipper and yacht back to 1970 and to have your name alongside these successful yachtsmen is a worthy honour.

2008 EYAV racing season had three yachts and skippers share the six E24 trophies; “Cathmarine” Mark Sheahan, “Rocket Science” James Walshe and “Puff” Frank Rendell.

We are confident that the 2009 racing season will bring forth a new group of Endeavour competitors to challenge for the EYAV trophies. Why not make sure your yacht is one of them. The EYAV E26 trophy is also available and is seeking three competitive E26 skippers, any takers?

President's Report

EYAV has had continued growth and performance during the past year.

  • 2007/ 2008 provided the closest racing season for many years. New members have worked hard on their Endeavours and have them performing at their finest. The E 24s and E26s were highly successful with their home club races and combined club events throughout Port Phillip.
  • Financially we have a positive balance, and we would like to thank our members for their prompt payment of the EYAV subscriptions. We are reluctant to increase the $10.00 subscriptions despite the rising costs associated with running the EYAV. We will carefully monitor the situation and review the decision next year; you can help by paying your subscriptions promptly.
  • Unfinancial members have been removed from the EYAV membership listing.
  • Frank Rendell and Mark Sheahan would like to thank the EYAV members again for giving us their help and support operating the Endeavour Yacht Association of Victoria.
  • We look forward to providing continued support and assistance for our EYAV members.

Safe and happy sailing
Frank Rendell, EYAV President

EYAV AGM & SAILING PROGRAM FOR 2009

Our EYAV forum discuss the plans for the 2008/2009 season.

Our race calendar will again be based around Hobsons Bay Yacht Club itinerary and included with the HBYC race schedule.

This ensures safety and correct procedures are followed using the busy areas of Hobsons Bay for our racing with well trained race officials supporting our events. Race entry and sailing instructions are available on the HBYC website http://www.hbyc.asn.au/

Those interested in cruising are welcome to participate with HBYC Cruising Group, information also on the HBYC website.

On The Waterfront

The Endeavour Yacht Association of Australia is holding the Endeavour E26 & E24 National Championships at Lake Macquarie NSW. We received this invitation for EYAV members to participate if they are interested.

“Frank, Please find attached the NOR & a flyer to place on the Club(s) notice board. I will send the entry form separately in the next email.
It would be great to see entries from Victoria as this will mean a true National Championship.
You can either do as “Dumaresq” did and tow your 24 to the event or charter a local yacht and bring your own sails.
“Dumaresq” went all the way to Perth to win all but one race. My crew chartered Peter Cook's 24 “ England Expects” and won on handicap.
This meant a clean sweep for NSW crews and the West Australians were not pleased.

We therefore expect one or possibly two crews from the west to compete at the Lake .
Give me as much time as you can so that I can source a yacht for you if you need a charter boat.
Jim Orrell is the Association's organizer at Lake Macquarie and is a great help to all (even Mexicans from south of the border!!). Spread the word and we will see you at Lake Macquarie I January 2009.

Graham Macpherson, President.
